The Church of Saint Esteve is located in Plaza Princept Benlloch Square of the population of Saint Esteve of Andorra la Vella, in the Principality of Andorra.
The Church of Saint Esteve is Romanesque in origin and dates back to the 12th century, although it suffered several refurbishments during the 20th century. From its origin it retains the semicircular apse, where it had several Romanesque mural paintings that were transferred to the National Art Museum of Catalonia and two private collections exhibited nowadays.
In the interior of the church is preserved a 12th century wooden polychromed beam, as well as two altarpieces from the Baroque period. The 18th century Cuadro de las Almas must also be noted in here. From the exterior you’ll be able to gaze at the original Romanesque decoration of the apse. This temple was remodeled in 1940 by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, who changed the bell tower and lateral entrance.
The Iglesia de Sant Esteve Church is situated in the historic centre of Andorra la Vella, where you’ll find innumerable examples of traditional architecture, as well as granite constructions.
